History of Our Churches
St. Frances Parish, Hoxie
The Hoxie St. Frances Xavier Cabrini church was an offspring of the Seguin, St. Martin Parish. The original church was a restored Army Chapel from the Dodge City Airbase. This church was dedicated June 5, 1949 and was in use until the current church was dedicated on November 25, 1979.
St. Martin of Tours Parish, Seguin
The parish of St. Martin of Tours dates back to 1906 and was dedicated April 1907. On August 14, 1908, the church was damaged in a cyclone and was later rebuilt that same year. The parish was largely German with a few Irish families. The Monsignor would preach two sermons at the same Mass, one in German and another in English. On August 14, 1925 a cyclone once again hit the St. Martin church, scattering the relics of the church. The current church was built in the 1930's. On February 29, 1964, the Hoxie parish was appointed to care for the Seguin community. As someone stated, "the mother that gave birth to a baby parish in Hoxie, now finds herself cast into the babe's arms in her declining years."
